Hygiene – Germs are not for sharing

When we talk about the hygiene then the thing first comes to our mind is cleanness, but at the same time this is very unfortunate that majority the people don’t even know the word “Hygiene”

Basically, hygiene is the practice of keeping yourself and your surroundings clean, especially in order to prevent illness or the spread of diseases. We all are hearing about cleanness since our childhood but do we really keep ourselves or our surrounding clean?

All of us know the answer very well, so in order create awareness about hygiene and importance of cleanness. I along with my group mates Burhan and Abdur have started a campaign about Hygiene. It’s a 12-week campaign, which started in the first week of March and will continue by the end of May.

The need for running this campaign is that many of us don’t wash hand before eating anything and most of us don’t use the gloves before doing any unhygienic activity nor we use masks to protect us from pollution. Even majority of us don’t even know the proper way of coughing and sneezing.

The 5 things we’re going to cover in this campaign

  1. Hand wash
  2. Gloves
  3. Mask
  4. Cough
  5. Sneeze

We will create awareness about the above 5 and will tell safety precaution. Up to 80% of the diseases are transmitted by the touch and when we shake hand to someone so we are sharing the germs and diseases. Through this campaign, we will aware that at the time of coughing and sneezing use your elbow instead of your hands. It takes seconds to wash your hands in a proper way, we will create awareness about that as well along with other things which have been mentioned above.

In this campaign, we will conduct seminars, workshops, roadshows, many interactive sessions and will take expert opinions, along with many activities on social media. As it is impossible to neglect the worth of social media, so it is going to play the major role in spreading the awareness of our work.

As our campaign has already started from the first week of March, so since that we have conducted 2 workshops in Musharaf Colony, Hawksbay from which in 1 workshop we received an average response but in 2nd one, we received an overwhelming response.

We have recorded radio ids, and shoot a 1 video for public service message. All the things are timely being shared on social media for keeping our audience up to date. There are so many other things that are scheduled and to be done by the end of May.

At the end of the campaign, if not 100% or 50% so at least 30% of the people will definitely be aware of hygiene and that 30 % will be the multipliers and can increase the percentage up to 100%.

Women – Universal victim of sweeping comments

We live in a country where a majority of the population is youth, and the ratio of the overall population is 48% female and 52% male. Basically, we live in a male dominant society. And still, we proudly talk about women’s right while knowing what actually the reality is.

International Women's Day

As a South Asian, as a Pakistani, we belong to that society which is modern outwardly but typical inside. We cannot ignore the enormous contribution of women not only towards the society but also the economy of the country.

On one side we talk about successful and inspirational women like Mohterma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, Malala Yousuf Zai, Shermeen Obaid Chinoy, Muniba Mazari, Sultana Siddiqui, and so on. In fact, a long list is there that has made the nation proud. But on the flip side, it all seems like an illusion.

Although its reality but we cannot ignore that what’s happening in the society. When our mothers, sisters, daughters or in fact any woman goes outside then the things she faces we all are aware of it. From her school life to college, university to the professional environment they are continuously being harassed in different ways.

It’s very unfortunate that women have accepted harassment as a part of their life. Instead of taking a step against it, a large number of women population stay quite just because “Log kya sochey gy or “Log kya khaein gy (What people will think or say).

Not even a girl child is safe in our society and we claim that both men and women are equal. We just talk about the equality but the reality is totally different. Although on one side, women have made their names in sports, education, entrepreneurship and many other fields, but on the other hand, we cannot even imagine that how much struggle they have done to enter in the specific field where men are ruling since the very beginning.

If we really want to empower the women then, first of all, we have to change our mindsets. If I talk about youth then a large number is wasting their time in calling girls “slut” just on the basis that she is bold, confident and hang out with other guys.

In the journey of a girl/woman to reach her destination. She faces so many things, if she has worn a burkha/abaya then the guys will pass a comment “MashaAllah” or “SubhanAllah”. If she has done a modern dressing then what she’ll be hearing “Chalti he kya”. In her whole journey, she faces even worse than it.

In the end, I just want to say one thing that instead of celebrating “International women’s Day” on one day, we should start respecting them every day from the depth of our hearts, and first of all, we need to change our mindset. We should start protecting women in the same way as we protect our mother, sister, daughter or wife.
